If your child wants to learn to skate and play hockey in a super fun and supportive environment, the NewBees program is for you!
The EYHA NewBees program is designed to teach the fundamentals of skating to children that are new to hockey. As their skating abilities develop, they are introduced to hockey basics. Participants must be at least 4 years of age. Most participants are 4-7 years of age though older learners are common and always welcome. Older skaters also have the option of participating in the House Program.
The NewBees group meets consistently each Saturday morning at the Essex HS rink. Our season will begin October 22nd and continue through February. Registration is completed online and is available on this site now.
Great news! Please note that EYHA has not increased the cost of participating in the NewBees program in order to make NewBees hockey more affordable for new families.
The registration fee for 2011-12 will be $50. Registration is completed online and is available now. Children 7+ will also be required to pay a USA Hockey registration fee. We are extremely flexible so if your family chooses to start later or end sooner, that is perfectly acceptable. We support the decisions that work best for your family.
The safety of your child is a primary concern. Therefore, certain equipment is required including:
All participants are provided with an Essex Sting jersey that is theirs to keep.
Use of mouth guards and neck guards are discretionary pursuant to USA Hockey guidelines.
Coaches and volunteers are always welcome. Parents or others wishing to assist should visit the Coaches section of the EYHA website to obtain the required paperwork which should be completed and turned in to John Laliberte. Please note that any on-ice volunteers must wear a helmet...no exceptions.
If you have any questions about the NewBees or the proper placement of your child, please contact John Laliberte at 879-7771 or email jplib@comcast.net.
